Today is Christmas, a public holiday, and everyone would be glad to sleep a little bit longer and get up a little bit later than usual but we can't. As victims of yarl restaurant's noise pollution program, we were chased out of our bedrooms at 6.30 a.m. when yarl restaurant turned on its loud and deafening kitchen hood. If you were to ask me what is the most frightening thing in my life, no doubt it is yarl restaurant's noise pollution program. Why is it so frightening? Because it makes loud and deafening noise all the time, chasing us out of our bedrooms early every morning whilst we are still in a deep sleep. Not only does it threaten our health and well-being but it also restraints our freedom turning us into slaves.
As I am typing out this article, the noise that I hear is so unbearable particularly at such an hour in the morning. The first thing that we hear early every morning is yarl restaurant's loud and deafening kitchen hood noise - like a noisy diesel truck outside our window. How could anyone bear this kind of noise throughout all his waking hours? In other countries, the restaurant owner would have been finded or even jailed but in Malaysia we cannot say or do anything about this. Why is it so? Because the Kuala Lumpur City Hall cannot tell the difference between a speaker and a kitchen hood. Do Malaysians have the right to a peaceful living? Do they have the right to have enough sleep and sleep peacefully without disturbance? Do they have the right to decide when to sleep and when to wake up? NO - yarl restaurant's boss wants to make big bucks and he has to sacrifice our health, well-being, and freedom! Early every morning, when he turns on his loud and deafening kitchen hood, it is as though he is telling everyone in the neighbourhood, "Hey, you fools, please get up and leave your bedrooms immediately. I want to make big bucks today and I have to turn on my loud and deafening kitchen hood. Go and sleep elsewhere."
