HOW SHOULD A KITCHEN LOOK LIKE?

At 6.15 a.m. this morning, yarl restaurant is already making loud and thunderous noise with its kitchen hood. Since  I have been waken up from my deep sleep by this loud and thunderous kitchen hood noise and cannot sleep again even though I am sleepy and tired after having worked late last night, I might as well come to my computer and write another article about yarl restaurant. My question for today is "How  should a kitchen look like?

Above is the picture of a clean kitchen that belongs to one of the restaurants in the West. In the above picture, you can see a clean kitchen environment where the workers are preparing food. Food prepared this way are certainly more appetizing. This is how a kitchen should look like. Let us compare the photo above with the ones below. Below are photos of yarl restaurant's open air kitchen where foods are prepared. Look at these pictures carefully. A picture speaks a thousand words. Would  you like to eat foods prepared this way? Is this our ideal Malaysian kitchen? Would you mind paying so much for foods prepared under such circumstances? Restaurant foods are not cheap nowadays. Perhaps Malaysians don't mind eating dirty foods. Is yarl restaurant the only restaurant in Malaysia that makes use of rubbish dumps as its open air kitchen? Perhaps this is what makes it so special!

The photo below is taken from the Facebook "Sampah Tidak Dikutip". If you read carefully what is written on this Facebook, you would realize that this heap of rubbish was just opposite yarl restaurant. Although this heap of rubbish is already cleared now, the flat dwellers still dump rubbish there from time to time since this is the flat's rubbish dump. What is really ridiculous is yarl restaurant also uses this rubbish dump as their second open air kitchen when they have a lot of food to prepare. Why does yarl restaurant need so many open air kitchens? Is it because their kitchen is so small that they have to make use of the rubbish dumps around as their kitchen?

What is even worse is there are many large garbage bins near yarl restaurant. (Look at the photo below. The arrow in this photo is pointing at yarl restaurant's open air kitchen). What do we normally find in the garbage bins? Please take note that when the Alam Flora workers empty the bins, they do not wash them and there are many decaying leftovers sticking to the bins for goodness knows how long. (What you see here are garbage bins that have just been emptied but of course these garbage bins can overflow from time to time). Results from the study by researchers at one of the world's leading waste management centres showed that garbage bins could be a breeding ground for a host of bacteria associated with some of the most devastating stomach bugs including salmonella, e.coli, legionella, clostridium and deadly listeria. The truth is there are many garbage bins near yarl restaurant and the workers of this restaurant like to prepare food outside the kitchen (probably because the kitchen is too small to accommodate the table that they use to prepare food). Just imagine what will happen when foods are prepared on the same lane where the garbage bins are and that these garbage bins are near to yarl restaurant! (These garbage bins are located on the left of yarl restaurant. There are also some large garbage bins filled with garbage on the right of yarl restaurant. I haven't taken the photos yet).

PHOTOS OF YARL RESTAURANT'S OPEN AIR KITCHEN

The time is already 11.10 p.m. I would really like to sleep now but I can't because yarl restaurant is still making loud and thunderous noise with its noisy kitchen hood. The most painful thing in life is that when you want to sleep but you can't because there is loud and thunderous kitchen hood noise outside your window. And it is even more painful to be waken up early in the morning by the same kitchen hood noise before you could sleep enough because yarl restaurant did not turn off its noisy kitchen hood until late at night. What should I do when I am very sleepy but cannot sleep because of the kitchen hood noise. What else can I do other than play with my computer and upload some of the latest photos of yarl restaurant. Wonder when yarl restaurant will turn off its noisy kitchen hood tonight? In this article, I would like to take a tour of yarl restaurant's open air kitchen with my readers. I hope my readers would enjoy seeing these photos.

Wonder why there are still so many people eating at this hour of the day. Don't they know that it is not healthy to eat just before bedtime? Do you know that:
  1. Since you’re less active at night, you’ll be less likely to burn the calories you just ate. This will lead to a greater percentage of these calories being converted to body fat.
  2. Eating at night can disturb sleep patterns, thus leading to poor recovery and regeneration.
  3. Your digestive system slows down at night, so any food eaten then will not be fully absorbed.
  4. And last but not least, a scientific study showed that mice that ate during the evening were more likely to gain fat than mice that consumed the same amount of calories earlier in the day.
(Yarl restaurant finally turned off its noisy kitchen hood at 11.25 p.m. tonight so let me post this article now). Wonder when yarl restaurant will turn on its noisy kitchen hood next morning? (This article is edited to add the time yarl restaurant turned on its loud and thunderous kitchen hood again. On 14 May 2014, which is the next morning, yarl restaurant turned on its noisy kitchen hood at 6.20 a.m., thus leaving us with less than 7 hours of sleep. Why is it so difficult for the citizens of Malaysia to defend their right to sleep 8 hours a day?)

PREPARING YOUR FOODS NEAR RUBBISH DUMPS

The video above was taken at 6.15 a.m. today when  yarl restaurant's  loud and thunderous kitchen hood was turned on. It can also be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tk0ZHgMvXxo

The 2 photos above showing yarl restaurant's outdoor kitchen were taken today (5 May 2014) at around 7.30 a.m. (This article was posted at 6.35 a.m. today and was edited to add these 2 photos).

This morning, yarl restaurant turned on its loud and deafening  kitchen hood at 6.15 a.m. In fact, I should be sleeping now and not writing this article but since Yarl restaurant has already waken me up with its loud and thunderous kitchen hood noise and I can't sleep anymore, I might as well write this article. At this hour when everywhere is so quiet that you can even hear the sound of a pin dropping, yarl restaurant's  loud and deafening kitchen hood noise is indeed a nightmare for everyone in the neighbourhood. It is indeed a shameful thing to say that yarl restaurant's boss is doing this kind of selfish thing with his eyes wide open despite all the complaints against him and ignoring all the sufferings that he is causing to others and even more shameful to say that this kind of thing is allowed to happen in a civilized country like Malaysia! You can click THE GREAT COVER UP: MALAYSIAN STYLE to read about how the Kuala Lumpur City Hall is covering up for yarl restaurant. Below are some photos of yarl restaurant that I would like to share with my readers.

This is what you see behind yarl restaurant. In fact, the situation has been like this since I was a kid i.e. for more than 30 years. That's why this place is known as rubbish lane. In this photo, you can see yarl restaurant's noisy kitchen hood with the telephone number, 0162314798, on it. On the left side of the kitchen hood, you can see a heap of rubbish. On the right side of the kitchen hood (see the photo below) is the open air kitchen where yarl restaurant's workers prepare their food. The flat dwellers like to dump rubbish from their windows which falls directly onto yarl restaurant's open air kitchen. In other words, yarl restaurant's open air kitchen is also a rubbish dump! The containers for putting food for their catering business are also dumped outside for washing.

The photo above was taken on 20 April 2014 - it was a Sunday - a very busy day indeed for yarl restaurant as there was so much food to prepare that day in the open air kitchen next to the noisy kitchen hood which is very near  to the rubbish dump! If what you can see outside the kitchen can be so filthy, can you imagine what is going on inside the kitchen where you cannot see?

The above photo is taken from the Facebook "Sampah Tidak Dikutip".

In front of the white car you can see the little "Toyota" used for lifting things parked outside yarl restaurant's kitchen. Behind the white car, you can see lots of rubbish.

In fact, there is rubbish everywhere on this lane. If you click to enlarge this photo, you can see rubbish inside the drain outside yarl restaurant's kitchen. The biggest rubbish bins can also be found on this lane. That's why there are so many big, black, fat rats scurrying all over the place!
Yarl restaurant's noisy kitchen hood with two rubbish packets in front of it. Here, the flat dwellers like to dump rubbish. The rubbish always falls onto yarl restaurant's open air kitchen. On the left are two rubbish dumps as you can see below.

The rubbish dumps next to yarl restaurant's loud and deafening kitchen hood.

IT SEEMS THAT MALAYSIANS JUST DON'T CARE HOW AND WHERE THEIR FOOD IS COOKED. THIS IS OUR MALAYSIAN CULTURE. THEY JUST SIMPLY EAT WHAT THEY CAN GET HOLD OF INCLUDING FOOD PREPARED IN THE OPEN AIR KITCHENS AT THE RUBBISH DUMPS ON RUBBISH LANE.

Do Malaysians really care about dirty restaurants or are they more interested in the taste of the food? Well, it seems that they don't mind eating shit in their foods as long as they don't know that there is shit in their foods! We complain about dirty restaurants but some of us continue to patronise these places. Perhaps, Malaysians don’t care about hygiene as long as they can eat the food they are used to. If you sit beside the smelly monsoon drain, which is blocked with rubbish, you don’t think about the drain and your proximity to it. You just want to be served quickly and savour the food. The dirty rag which the waiter used to wipe a mess on the floor is then used to clean the table, and you think nothing of resting your hands and cutlery on the table. Very few of us request fresh cutlery, if the ones we were given are encrusted with bits of hardened food. Others who find lipstick stains on the rim of the glass simply turn it around 180 degrees. Diners who see a fly hovering over food, may find on closer scrutiny, that the fly has laid eggs – tiny clusters of pearly white lozenges, almost invisible to the naked eye. Have you ever wondered how many times the garnish adorning a dish has been used? You might wonder if the bread has been on parade in the bread basket.

I have seen my friends removing the ants from their plates of rice and then continuing eating. The question is: Can we go on eating when we know that there are ants in our food? Well, the answer is: Dirty foods are okay for Malaysians. I have seen (last Friday) restaurant workers picking up the pieces of fried chicken that they have dropped accidentally at the food counter and putting them back onto the tray. Did anyone mind? Everyone was waiting impatiently to be served that they didn't mind at all. I was the only one who walked out of the restaurant that day. Some time back, I saw a worker in a restaurant in Brickfields picking up the chicken leg that has fallen onto the floor and putting it back onto the tray when he thought that no one was looking at him.  I have seen rats scurrying around in a restaurant, but the patrons merely laughed at the “playful” rats, and carried on eating. Produce, like vegetables, is stored on the wet floor, next to the toilets but you shrug your shoulders and wait patiently for your meal. We have seen some hawker stalls in which dishwashing involves dunking dishes into a bowl of murky water, before being stacked up for re-use. If the parts of a restaurant that you can see are dirty, what about the bits you cannot see? As a rough guide to the standards of hygiene, try and check the toilets. If the customer toilets are dirty, just imagine what the kitchens are like, where only members of staff are allowed. Just go to the back of the restaurant and you will see things that you hope you wouldn't see!

Dirty toilets and kitchens, rubbish and unwashed utensils piled up in back lanes, and giant rats and roaches scurrying across the floor and nearby drains are common sights in food courts, hawker stalls and restaurants in and around the Klang Valley. Despite such a revolting environment, people don't seem to mind patronising these places. They may be disgusted by such sights, but the attitude seems to be to simply ignore the surroundings and "enjoy" the food, opening themselves to infection and disease.

What does the rubbish contain?

Enterobacteriacea: Can cause stomach upsets.
E.coli: Some strains cause illness.

Yeasts: Can be harmful and also causes food to rot.
Pseudomonas aerugino: Causes food to spoil.

Moulds: Speeds up food rot and odour.

Bacillus cereus: Can cause vomiting

Staphylococcus aureus: Known to cause stomach upsets.
Clostridium Perfringens: Causes similar sickness to salmonella, though not fatal.

Please Save Us - Let us boycott yarl restaurant's air and noise pollution program

The video above is taken at 5.55 a.m. this Sunday morning on 4 May 2014. Here you can see one of yarl restaurant's workers staring at my camera. Yarl restaurant's boss clearly knows that his kitchen hood is disturbing the entire neighbourhood with its loud and thunderous noise but he doesn't care. He only thinks of his business and profit. Should we let people like him triumph in their evil deeds? I would also like to make it known to the world that should anything happen to me, the police should go to yarl restaurant to investigate. Here is yarl restaurant's criminal threatening. You can also view this video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qfqLB_PCtg&feature=youtu.be

Below are some photos of yarl restaurant taken this morning at around 7.40 a.m. This article was posted at 6.14 a.m. and was edited to add these photos as these photos were taken at a later time). A picture speaks a thousand words. I hope that these pictures will help to give my readers a clearer picture of yarl restaurant. How do you like yarl restaurant's open air kitchen? Is this the place where you would like your food to be prepared? Whether you like it or not, this is the place where yarl restaurant prepares food since it started operation in January 2013. Happy eating! And of course not far from here, you can see big garbage bins that could help to add flavor to your food with its supply of bacteria and odour that comes from the decomposing rubbish.

Many of you may wonder why are there so many articles about yarl restaurant's air and noise pollution program. Why start a blog just to write about this program? Why start a Facebook for this program? Do you think we like to do this? We certainly have better things to do other than this but why spend so much time writing about yarl restaurant's air and noise pollution program? We are victims of yarl restaurant's air and noise pollution program who are dying slowly from its loud and thunderous noise but there is nothing we can do about it. Every article here is written in great pain as we are suffering intensely from yarl restaurant's evil deeds. To be frank, I am actually very sleepy now but cannot sleep because of the excessive noise coming yarl restaurant's kitchen hood. I have no choice but to write this article. Even if nothing can be done to ease our pain, at least we do not have to suffer in silence. Let the whole world know how we, as citizens of Malaysia, are suffering as though we are living in a lawless country since nothing can be done to preserve our most basic rights i.e. the right to sleep. The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) seems to be encouraging yarl restaurant's air and noise pollution program by their inaction. What is even worse is that the DBKL is trying to cover up for yarl restaurant by telling a lot of stupid lies - so stupid that even a child finds it difficult to believe. In other countries (even in India) such a selfish and irresponsible restaurant owner would have been fined and even jailed but in Malaysia, noise pollution victims suffer at their own risk because no one can help them.

Can the members of the public please help us? Malaysians may not have the right to a safe and peaceful living but we do have the right to punish the evildoers. Let us work together to let the Malaysian Government know that our most basic rights should not be infringed - in this case the right not to be waken up in the wee hours of the morning by loud and thunderous noise when we are still in our deep sleep. Are we asking for too much? We have already accepted the fact that we cannot stay in our bedrooms day and night. But why can't yarl restaurant let us sleep a little bit longer in the morning? Why chase us out of our bedrooms with such loud and thunderous noise in the wee hours of the morning? Why do we have to suffer from sleep deprivation? Why is it that after 57 years of independence, we are still living in a cowboy town i.e. anyone can come into your housing area, make loud and thunderous noise all the time and chase us out of our bedrooms in the wee hours of the morning but we cannot say or do anything about it? Apart from the noise, yarl restaurant is continuously throwing out curry particles into the air to contaminate the clothes that we put out to dry. Just imagine the feeling of satisfaction that you have after you have done your washing but when you put out your clothes to dry, they are soaked with curry particles from yarl restaurant's kitchen. In other words, we don't even have a place to dry our clothes. Just like the Lynas and Cyanide victims, all we can do is to move away if we cannot stand the sufferings that these evildoers are causing us. Do you know how painful it is to have lived in a place all your lives only to find that you have suddenly become homeless just because some selfish people are doing something in the neighbourhood to threaten your lives and well-being? Do you know how painful it is to hear noise all day long? We cannot stay in our bedrooms unless we turn on some kind of music/songs to cover up yarl restaurant's kitchen hood noise. This would mean that we must listen to some kind of noise all day long.

Have you ever imagined how quiet and peaceful it is at 5.55 a.m. in the morning (particularly a Sunday morning)? Anyone in their right senses would not want to talk loudly or even turn on the music loudly at this hour of the day because we know that it is just not right to make noise at such an early hour in the morning. As for yarl restaurant's selfish and irresponsible boss, it seems to be alright for him to turn on his loud and thunderous kitchen hood with its loud motor sound at this hour of the day. This is nothing new to us as we have been suffering continuously from his noise pollution program since January 2013 without the right to say or do anything about it. What is even worse is that the noisy kitchen hood may even turn it on as early as 5.20 a.m. in the morning chasing everyone out of their bedrooms when they are still in their deep sleep! It has happened before and yarl restaurant's boss is likely to do it again if we keep quiet for some time. Whenever anyone complains, he would turn on his noisy kitchen hood a little bit later i.e. at 6.45 a.m. After a few days, he would revert back to his old habit - turning on his loud and deafening kitchen hood earlier and earlier with each passing day from 6.45 a.m. → 6.35 a.m. →6.30 a.m. →6.20 a.m. and today at 5.55 a.m. If no one complains, he can even turn it on at 5.20 a.m.!  This is a truly a gross transgression of human rights but he is doing it with his eyes wide open ignoring all the sufferings that he is causing to others. Should we encourage this kind of selfishness and irresponsible behavior in our society? Let us hope that the members of the public would not give their support to selfish people who only think of their business and  profits at the expense of others. In actual fact, yarl restaurant's boss wants to turn on his noisy kitchen hood at 5.00 a.m. in the morning or perhaps even earlier than that. At 5.00 a.m., the workers are already busy preparing food. That is why he is trying to turn on his noisy kitchen hood earlier and earlier and see how we react. If no one says anything when he turns on his noisy kitchenhood at 5.00 a.m., then it is most likely that he would stick to that time or even earlier. After all, if he could turn it on at 5.00 a.m., then why not at 4.30 a.m.? The difference is only 30 minutes!

How should we describe yarl restaurant's boss? Let us take a look at the things that he does before we come to any conclusions:
  • He knows that he is making loud and thunderous noise all the time but refuses to do anything to reduce the noise. He even lied to Fong Kui Lun (MP for this area)'s assistant last August that he would do something about the noise without any intention to do so.
  • He purposely turns on his loud and thunderous kitchen hood in the wee hours of the morning when he knows that everyone is still sleeping. He just couldn't be bothered  about others as long as he can make money.
  • Does he care about hygiene when he can even turn the rubbish dumps in this area into his open air kitchen and prepare food there? Please click here to see the other open air kitchen of yarl restaurant. Can you imagine yarl restaurant's workers preparing food here in this very spot where the rubbish heap once was? To be exact, on the 19th and 20th of April 2014. This place is just opposite yarl restaurant. When yarl restaurant's workers prepared their food here, they also blocked the back door making it difficult for people to go in and out. (Although this rubbish heap is cleared, there is still rubbish here as this place is the flat's rubbish dump). Yarl restaurant started operation in January 2013 and the pictures above clearly tell you how yarl restaurant's workers prepare food all these time!
  • What is even worse about yarl restaurant's boss is when he read about the articles in this blog, he still refused to do anything to reduce the noise. On the contrary, he started making criminal threats to scare us. Just what kind of a person he is?

As yarl restaurant's victims, we have been going through a period of hell since yarl restaurant started operating in January last year and these sufferings would go on as long as yarl restaurant continues to plague us with its loud and deafening kitchen hood noise. There is actually no difference between yarl restaurant's noise pollution program and the Lynas Case or Gold for me, Cyanide for You Case because the health hazards caused by noise pollution  are no less serious than radiation and cyanide. Yarl restaurant's noise pollution program is really too stressful for us to bear and we have come to a point where we cannot take it anymore. Our health is also deteriorating because of it. Just exactly how do we suffer? Please click A Year in Hell with Yarl Restaurant to read what kind of hell we have been going through  with yarl restaurant's noise pollution program. The articles in this blog represent our voiceless pleas for help from the public since there isn't anything that the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) could do to solve the problem. Apart from increasing our property taxes, it seems that there isn't anything which that the DBKL could do.

In Malaysia, there are no laws to protects our basic rights. If someone were to put up a loud and thunderous kitchen hood outside your window and turns it on non-stop day and night, chasing you out of your bedroom as early as at 5.20 a.m. and forbidding you to sleep at 11.40 p.m., you cannot say or do anything about it. You can only bear the noise with fortitude. If you can't bear it, then go and buy a new house and move away. How many Malaysians are suffering from tinnitus because of this kind of noise? Similarly, if someone were to build a nuclear plant in front of your house, you will have to bear the radiation that comes from it with fortitude. Malaysians are not rich. Many of them can only afford to buy one house in their lifetime and even that they have to pay like hell. Should we allow selfish and irresponsible people to triumph in their evil deeds? Let us hope that the public would sympathize with us and  help us to put an end to yarl restaurant's noise pollution program. If there is nothing to cook, then yarl restaurant's noise pollution victims do not have to suffer anymore. Please do not let selfish and irresponsible people who sacrifice others for the sake of their business to triumph over their evil deeds. We may not be protected by the law but there is something which all of us can do. Let us all boycott this kind of people and their business so that they will not triumph over their evil deeds.

Is it really necessary to eat in a restaurant? Do you know that it is much more hygienic to cook your own food? Why eat food prepared at the rubbish dumps when you can cook your own food in your own kitchen which is much, much cleaner than yarl restaurant's open air kitchen? And of course, it is certainly cheaper to cook your own food!

When rubbish dumps can be turned into open air kitchen

The video above video was taken at 6.05 a.m. this Sunday morning  (27 April 2014) when yarl restaurant's selfish and irresponsible boss turned on his loud and thunderous kitchen hood. You can also view this video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQwB1lG7HsU&feature=youtu.be

The 2 photos above were taken today (27 April 2014) at around 8 a.m. (This article was posted at 6.23 a.m. today and was edited to add these 2 photos).

This morning, yarl restaurant turned on its loud and deafening  kitchen hood at 6.05 a.m. In fact, I should be sleeping now and not writing this article but since Yarl restaurant has already waken me up with its loud and thunderous kitchen hood noise and I can't sleep anymore, I might as well write this article. At this hour (particularly on a Sunday morning) when everywhere is so quiet that you can even hear the sound of a pin dropping, yarl restaurant's  loud and deafening kitchen hood noise is indeed a nightmare for everyone in the neighbourhood.
