A MESSAGE FOR YARL RESTAURANT'S VICTIMS: LET US WORK TOGETHER TO END OUR SUFFERINGS

The video above  is taken at 6.05 a.m. this morning (29 May 2014). I was actually still sleeping soundly at that time when I suddenly heard a loud blasting sound that shook my entire bedroom like an earthquake. I was waken up suddenly only to find that yarl restaurant has turned on it's loud and thunderous kitchen hood again at 6.05 a.m. today. This video can also be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uATykYs-5A. In this video, you can see yarl restaurant's open air kitchen very clearly.

In the above photo, taken at 8 a.m. this morning, you can see yarl restaurant's worker hiding behind the white van to prepare food on the dirty table at  yarl restaurant's open air kitchen.

Photos of the dirty homemade tables (one high, one low) at yarl restaurant's open air kitchen taken at 10 a.m. this morning. Yarl restaurants' workers use these tables to prepare food. Can you see the crow standing on the high table? Do you know that crows can transmit bird flu? Would you like to eat foods eaten by crows first before you? Is this your ideal restaurant? Don't you think it's much more hygienic to cook your own food? I am sure your kitchen is much cleaner than yarl restaurant's open air kitchen! But of course Malaysians don't mind eating dirty foods. In this photo, you can also see yarl restaurant's faulty kitchen hood that not only makes loud and thunderous noise from the wee hours of the morning until late at night but also throws out curry vapour to pollute the entire neighbourhood. (The thing with the telephone number on it is yarl restaurant's faulty kitchen hood).

Why am I writing about yarl restaurant again? This morning I was waken up by yarl restaurant's loud and thunderous kitchen hood at 6.05 a.m. As usual, since I can't sleep anymore because of the noise, the only thing I can do now is to write  an article about yarl restaurant's air and noise pollution program. What should I write today? Well, it is one of my neighbours who actually gave me the idea of what I should write about today. Yesterday, one of my neighbours (an old lady) came to see me. Guess what she said? She said that both she and her husband couldn't sleep because at around 5.00 a.m. every morning, yarl restaurant's workers are already making a lot of noise chopping chicken, pounding chilly, and dragging the gas tanks around. (It never occurred to me that chopping chicken, pounding chilly and pushing the gas tanks around can also be also be a form of noise pollution because I am more concerned with the kitchen hood noise). She said that she and her husband have to stay in the living room all the time to escape from the noise. The only time they enter their bedroom is at night after yarl restaurant turned off its noisy kitchen hood but since yarl restaurant starts making noise at 5.00 a.m. every morning, they find it very difficult to sleep in their bedroom. These poor old folks have to leave their bedroom at 5.00 a.m. every morning and sit in the living room the whole day until bedtime. Whenever I walk past their door (which is open most of the time, I see them sitting in the living room). In actual fact, their flat is not as near to yarl restaurant as mine so it seems that my family is suffering more that theirs. This old lady asked me to talk to yarl restaurant's boss and ask him to stop the noise. I told her to come together with me  and talk to him. Guess what she said? She said that she is scared and that it is not good for Indians to talk to Indians like that. She said that since I am Malay, it is better for me to confront yarl restaurant's boss and settle the matter with him. And of course there are those who said that it is useless complaining to the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) because no one will take action. (Is it because Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram is Indian and it is NOT nice for him to take any action against yarl restaurant? It is no wonder Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram is not doing anything with yarl restaurant's air and noise pollution program. Who is Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram? Click here to find out). I could remember some years back when my wife woke up at 5.00 a.m. to pound chilly with the pestle and mortar. The neighbors above us immediately took a piece of wood and struck my awning repeatedly whilst shouting at us telling us to stop because they wanted to sleep. Why is it that they dare not do the same to yarl restaurant? So my readers, this is the state of mind / attitude of yarl restaurant's victims i.e. they are suffering day and night but they dare not voice out. They want others to voice out for them. Those who suffer most are the old folks and young children as we cannot expect them to get up so early in the morning. What I write today is intended to be a message for all those who are suffering from yarl restaurant's air and noise pollution program, pleading them to work together to end their sufferings.

Dear yarl restaurant's air and noise pollution victims, do you enjoy
  1. being waken up from your deep sleep at 5.00 a.m. every the morning?
  2. being plagued by yarl restaurant's loud and thunderous kitchen hood noise day and night?
  3. being chase out of your bedroom in the wee hours of the morning?
  4. not being able to enter your bedroom all the time i.e. only entering it after yarl restaurant turns off its noisy kitchen hood only to be chased out of your bedroom again before you could sleep enough?
  5. having your clothes soaked in curry each time you put them out to dry?
  6. having your bedroom windows closed all the time to reduce the noise created by yarl restaurant's noisy kitchen hood? Do you know how stuffy our bedrooms are because we cannot open the windows?
  7. sleep deprivation?
  8. being told when to sleep and when to wake up? (Many of us dare not go out late anymore even on a Saturday night because we know that we would be chased out of our bedroom in the wee hours of the Sunday mornings as yarl restaurant always turns on its noisy kitchen hood very early particularly on Sunday mornings i.e. the day when everyone hopes to sleep a little bit later than usual since they don't have to work on Sundays).
  9. resting on the sofa in the living room when you are sick because you can't enter your bedroom that is filled with yarl restaurant's kitchen hood noise?
My dear yarl restaurant's air and noise pollution victims. Are you going to endure these sufferings for a lifetime? If you don't want to suffer anymore, it is time we work together to put an end to our sufferings. Do not feel scared but speak up for your rights. Please remember that what I can do alone is very limited. In order to get rid of yarl restaurant's air and noise pollution program, we need to group together and demand for our rights i.e.
  1. ask yarl restaurant's boss to stop the noise
  2. ask for compensation for the sufferings and inconvenience that we have endured since yarl restaurant started operation in January 2013
  3. ask yarl restaurant's boss to pay for soundproofing in all our flats if he insists to make loud and thunderous noise
  4. ask yarl restaurant to move elsewhere to a place where its kitchen hood is not directly facing anyone's bedroom windows

Below are some of the most exotic photos of yarl restaurant's open air kitchen in my collection. Hope you enjoy seeing them.

WHY IS THE KUALA LUMPUR CITY HALL (DBKL) SO DEFENSIVE OF YARL RESTAURANT'S FAULTY KITCHEN HOOD?

The video above  is taken at 5.40 a.m. this Sunday morning (25 May 2014). I was actually still sleeping soundly at that time when I suddenly heard a loud blasting sound in my dream. I was waken up suddenly only to find that yarl restaurant has turned on it's loud and thunderous kitchen hood again at 5.40 a.m. This video can also be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hk_cxisl7RA&feature=youtu.be. In this video, you can see yarl restaurant's open air kitchen very clearly. You can also see yarl restaurant's faulty kitchen hood. (The thing with the telephone number on it is yarl restaurant's faulty kitchen hood).

Does yarl restaurant have the right to chase everyone out of their bedrooms at 5.40 a.m. in the morning, particularly on Sunday mornings? It seems that with the support given by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL)'s Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram, there isn't anything which yarl restaurant cannot do. Since yarl restaurant has already chased me out of my bedroom when I should be sleeping at this hour of the day, I might as well write this article. After all, what should I do when I feel so sleepy and tired now but cannot sleep because of the kitchen hood noise? My question for today is "Why is the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL)'s Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram telling fishy lies and doing fishy things to cover up for yarl restaurant?

In actual fact, yarl restaurant's air and noise pollution program is a chronic problem which cannot be solved by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL). Why is it so? According to the DBKL, it is not their problem as they are only dealing with licensing. They asked me to call the Department of Environment (DOE) but the DOE said that this is not their jurisdiction. They kicked the case back to the DBKL. Yarl restaurant's air and noise pollution case is like a football that is being kicked from one department to another. (Is this an indication of our government departments' poor services and/or laziness on the part of our civil servants? If that is the case, the Goods and Services Tax, GST, should be abolished as it cannot help to upgrade our country!) It should be noted that no matter which department the complaints are sent to, they would finally get into the hands of Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram of DBKL who is in charge of the Damansara area including Brickfields and he would never take any action. What did Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram do with the complaints? He gave all sorts of stupid excuses and did nothing. Do these stupid excuses imply some fishiness on his part? Bribery or perhaps he has an interest in the restaurant? It seems that we are still living in the cowboy era as lawlessness still prevails today i.e. when our rights are infringed, there isn't any laws to protect us and we have to take the matter into our own hands. It is like being robbed but the police doesn't want to do anything thus leaving it to us to deal with the robber in our own way. Is this what is meant by "Malaysia Boleh"? Now, let us look at the fishy things that Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram did as well as the fishy lies that he told as presented clearly below.

FISHY THING NO 1
One day, after repeated complaints from the residents, the DBKL officers finally went to check on yarl restaurant. However, instead of looking for the real kitchen hood, they simply assumed that the kitchen hood was the speaker inside the restaurant. So, instead of dealing with the kitchen hood, they went on to deal with the speaker and said that there was no noise pollution. Is this stupidity on their part or just a mistake?  Please read the email from Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram below:

In this email, Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram said that the speaker was only temporary since according to yarl restaurant's boss, it was intended to attract customers during Deepavali. Sounds ridiculous, isn't it? We are complaining about the kitchen hood but Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram is dealing with the speaker.  There is no reason why this mistake could be made when the photo of the kitchen hood is so clear in my blog article (I have provided a link to my latest article in this blog in my email to DBKL). The question is why on earth did Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram focus on the speaker and did not try to look for the kitchen hood at all? Don't tell me that he didn't know that the kitchen hood is at the back of the restaurant when there is a photo of it in my article. This is clear evidence that he is trying to cover up for yarl restaurant. Even a little child knows what yarl restaurant's kitchen hood looks like after seeing the pictures in my blog but Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram still cannot differentiate between a speaker and a kitchen hood (after reading my email with a link to my blog). Assuming that the kitchen hood was the speaker, his verdict was - no noise pollution.  Seems that this is the only excuse for Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram to defend yarl restaurant. Even a stupid child could tell you what a kitchen hood is and where yarl restaurant's noisy kitchen hood could be found after reading my blog and seeing the pictures in it. Why is it that Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram who has so much experience in dealing with noise pollution can't even differentiate between a speaker and a kitchen hood and he doesn't know where it is even after reading the articles in this blog and seeing a photo of yarl restaurant's kitchen hood. There is a saying "With money even the kitchen hood can turn into the speaker". Just how true is it? Well, it is for the Kuala Lumpur City Hall to answer this question. Since Malaysia is known as one of the most corrupt nations, anything can happen here.

FISHY THING NO 2
Next, Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram came out with the verdict that as long as the source of noise is in your house, there is no noise pollution. Sounds ridiculous, doesn't it? Let us read the email from Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram below and see how ridiculous it is:

Ceropong asap terletak dibahagian belakang bangunan dan muncungnya

According to this email, yarl restaurant's motor is inside the restaurant and the kitchen hood is facing downwards into the drain. Therefore Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram is of the opinion that there is no noise pollution even though yarl restaurant's loud and deafening kitchen hood noise can be heard on the 4th floor! Don't you think that this is the most stupid answer  that anyone could give? Does this mean that I can turn on my CD player loudly at the whole day to disturb my neighbours as long as the CD player is in my house? When the neighbours complain, can I tell them that there is no noise pollution because the CD player is in my house? So, my dear readers, it is alright for you to turn on your CD player, TV, and computer speakers loudly as early as 5.20 a.m. and even at midnight to disturb your neighbours because this is not noise pollution according to the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram is speaking on behalf of the DBKL). Why is it so? Because the CD player, TV, and computer speaker are in your house! Don't you think that this is indeed one of the greatest jokes of the century? Please take note that no matter how loudly we turn on our CD player or television, it can never be as loud as yarl restaurant's thunderous kitchen hood noise! (It is obvious that Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram is telling lies for yarl restaurant for the second time).

This article is edited to add in the above photos of yarl restaurant's open air kitchen which were taken at 7.30 a.m. and 8 a.m. today. (This article was originally posted at 5.58 a.m. this morning)

If you look at the photo of yarl restaurant's kitchen hood above (the thing with the telephone number on it), it is very obvious that it does NOT even touch the ground. Pungent curry vapour can therefore still escape from the bottom of the kitchen hood into the air to pollute the entire neighbourhood. This clearly explains why the entire area around yarl restaurant's open air kitchen is filled with pungent curry vapour. Below are two photos of kitchen hoods belonging to 2 other restaurants in Brickfields. Let us compare these two photos with yarl restaurant's open air kitchen photos in this blog. If you look at the 2 photos below you will understand what is meant by the kitchen hood facing downwards and ended up in the drain as these 2 pictures clearly show. When the kitchen hood merges with the drain, the curry vapour would go inside the drain and hence cannot pollute the air. But yarl restaurant's kitchen hood did not even touch the drain and that's why the pungent curry from its kitchen is constantly polluting the air (Each time we put our clothes out to dry, they are soaked in curry).

Kitchen hood photo of a restaurant in Brickfield (NOT yarl restaurant)

Kitchen hood photo of a restaurant in Brickfields (NOT yarl restaurant). Even though this photo is not so clear, you can still see that the kitchen hood actually merges with the drain which is already covered up so that the pungent curry from the kitchen would go into the drain and cannot pollute the air.

But why did Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram lie that yarl restaurant's kitchen hood is facing downwards into the drain (menghala kebawah kedalam longkang awam)?  There is another saying: With money nothing is impossible! Once again, it is for the DBKL to tell us how true this saying is! What the DBKL should do now is to find out why Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram is trying to cover up for yarl restaurant.

FISHY THING NO 3
Upon repeated complaints, the DBKL officers finally went to check on yarl restaurant but they chose the day when it was closed (I suppose a DBKL insider must have known that yarl restaurant was closed that day. Is this DBKL insider Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram?). According Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram, since the restaurant was closed that day, there was no noise pollution. Yarl restaurant is opened every day so why chose the day when it was closed? Did they do it on purpose? Let us read the email from Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram below:

3.Tarikh siasatan pada 10/2/2012@ 9.45pagi dan didapati restoran bertutup
dan berkunci.
4.Mucung cerobong asap menghala kebawah kedalam longkang awam dan

According to this email, they went to check on yarl restaurant on 10 February 2014 but it was closed and locked. The kitchen hood was facing downwards and going into the drain and the motor was inside the premises. They were not in operation. Since yarl restaurant was closed that day, their verdict is: No noise pollution. Even a child could sense something fishy here. Why chose the day when yarl restaurant was closed to check on them? If the restaurant was closed on that day, why not try again another day? Is that the way our government departments function or is this solely Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram's idea? This is a clear indication of something fishy going on. Yarl restaurant is operating 7 days a week and these DBKL fellows chose to check on them on the one day when it was closed and they never bother to go there again assuming that there is no noise pollution. Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram is obviously telling lies again for the third time. Why did he keep emphasizing that yarl restaurant's kitchen hood ended in the drain when it is obvious that this kitchen hood did not even touch the drain? Fishiness again?

If the DBKL can be so accurate in their predictions i.e. picked on the day when yarl restaurtant was closed to do the inspection when yarl restaurant is opened 7 days a week, why not do lottery consultancy instead? Anyway, what else can the DBKL do if they can't even settle a simple noise pollution case? Apart from trying to cover up for yarl restaurant's air and noise pollution program in a fishy way, there isn't anything else that they can do. What s shame! Malaysia Boleh!

WHY PAY SO MUCH FOR FOODS PREPARED NEAR GARBAGE DUMPS?

At 6.20 a.m. this morning, yarl restaurant is already making loud and thunderous noise with its kitchen hood. Since  I have been waken up from my deep sleep by this loud and thunderous kitchen hood noise and cannot sleep again even though I am sleepy and tired, I might as well come to my computer and write another article about yarl restaurant. Do you think I enjoy writing about yarl restaurant's air and noise pollution program? Life is not easy for me too. I have to be waken up by yarl restaurant early every morning but despite my state of sleepiness and tiredness, I have to think of something to write about yarl restaurant. Every article that I write is filled with pain but this is the only way to call for help because we, as victims of yarl restaurant's noise pollution program, are suffering intensely day and night because of the noise. The grief and pain of having to be waken up early every morning and to endure sleepiness and tiredness every day of our lives since January 2013 when yarl restaurant started operation is what gives me the enthusiasm to go on writing and fighting for our most basic right i.e the right to have enough sleep. Thank God, I am never out of ideas when it comes to writing about yarl restaurant's air and noise pollution program.

Above is the picture of a clean kitchen that belongs to one of the restaurants in the West. In the above picture, you can see a clean kitchen environment where the workers are preparing food. Food prepared this way are certainly more appetizing. This is how a kitchen should look like. Let us compare the photo above with the ones below. Below are photos of yarl restaurant's open air kitchen where foods are prepared. Look at these pictures carefully. A picture speaks a thousand words. Would  you like to eat foods prepared this way? Is this our ideal Malaysian kitchen? Would you mind paying so much for foods prepared under such circumstances? Restaurant foods are not cheap nowadays. Perhaps Malaysians don't mind eating dirty foods. Is yarl restaurant the only restaurant in Malaysia that makes use of rubbish dumps as its open air kitchen? Perhaps this is what makes it so special!

The truth is there are many large garbage bins near yarl restaurant and the workers of this restaurant like to prepare food outside the kitchen (probably because the kitchen is too small to accommodate the table that they use to prepare food). Just imagine what will happen when foods are prepared on the same lane where the garbage bins are and that these garbage bins are near to yarl restaurant!  . What do we normally find in the garbage bins? Please take note that when the Alam Flora workers empty the bins, they do not wash them and there are many decaying leftovers sticking to the bins for goodness knows how long. Results from the study by researchers at one of the world's leading waste management centres showed that garbage bins could be a breeding ground for a host of bacteria associated with some of the most devastating stomach bugs including salmonella, e.coli, legionella, clostridium and deadly listeria.

Can you see the big arrow in the photo above? It is pointing at yarl restaurant's noisy kitchen hood. This is where yarl restaurant's open air kitchen is. The big garbage bins you see in the above photo can be found on the right of yarl restaurant.

In the photo above, you can see yarl restaurant's open air kitchen with another big garbage bin on the left. Can you see the rubbish on the ground surrounding this garbage bin? (Photograph taken on 18 May 2014 at around 10 a.m.)

Below are some photos of yarl restaurant's open air kitchen where foods are prepared. Look at these pictures carefully. A picture speaks a thousand words. Would  you like to eat foods prepared this way? Is this our ideal Malaysian kitchen? Would you mind paying so much for foods prepared under such circumstances? The photo below is taken from the Facebook "Sampah Tidak Dikutip". If you read carefully what is written on this Facebook, you would realize that this heap of rubbish was just opposite yarl restaurant. Although this heap of rubbish is already cleared now, the flat dwellers still dump rubbish there from time to time since this is the flat's rubbish dump. What is really ridiculous is yarl restaurant also uses this rubbish dump as their second open air kitchen when they have a lot of food to prepare. Why does yarl restaurant need so many open air kitchens? Is it because their kitchen is so small that they have to make use of the rubbish dumps around as their kitchen?

RESTAURANT PREPARING FOODS NEAR GARBAGE DUMPS

At 5.55 a.m. this Sunday morning, yarl restaurant is already making loud and thunderous noise with its kitchen hood. Since  I have been waken up from my deep sleep by this loud and thunderous kitchen hood noise and cannot sleep again even though I am still feeling very sleepy and tired after I had a late outing with my family last night, I might as well come to my computer and write another article about yarl restaurant. No matter which department, the complaints are sent to, they will finally get into the hands of Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram who is in charge of the Damansara area including Brickfields and he will never take any action. What will Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram do with the complaints? He will give stupid excuses and do nothing. Please read THE GREAT COVER UP: MALAYSIAN STYLE to read find out who Thilagenthiran a/l Somasundram is and what stupid excuses he made to cover up for yarl restaurant.

The only thing I can do now is to beg for sympathy from the public through my writings. It seems that yarl restaurant's air and noise pollution problem can only be solved by the members of the public i.e. if yarl restaurant has nothing to cook, then its victims would not have to suffer anymore. We can only hope that the members of the public would get to read my articles and sympathize with us and boycott yarl restaurant's air and noise pollution program. We, as yarl restaurant's air and noise pollution victims, have suffered intensely for 17 months and we can  only hope that our fellow Malaysians would do us some justice. My dear readers, it is always cheaper and more hygienic to cook your own food. Why pay so much for foods prepared near rubbish dumps? Why take your dinner at midnight? Do you know that it is extremely unhealthy to eat prior to bedtime? The best time to eat is at 7 p.m. because your body can still have a few hours to digest the food before you sleep. When you are sleeping, your body should be repairing itself and not busy digesting food.

Life is not easy for me too. I have to be waken up by yarl restaurant early every morning but despite my state of sleepiness and tiredness, I have to think of something to write about yarl restaurant. Do you think I enjoy writing about yarl restaurant's air and noise pollution program? Every article that I write is filled with pain but this is the only way to call for help because we, as victims of yarl restaurant's noise pollution program, are suffering intensely day and night because of the noise. And of course each time we put out our clothes to dry, they are soaked in curry that comes from yarl restaurant's kitchen because of its defective kitchen hood. The grief and pain of having to be waken up early every morning and to endure sleepiness and tiredness every day of our lives since January 2013 when yarl restaurant started operation is what gives me the enthusiasm to go on writing and fighting for our rights. Thank God, I am never out of ideas when it comes to writing about yarl restaurant's air and noise pollution program. Today, I would like to share with my readers some interesting photos of the garbage dumps near yarl restaurant's open air kitchen. These garbage dump photos were taken on 16 May 2014 and they clearly show what you can see on the right of yarl restaurant. Can you see the big arrows in the first 3 photos? It is pointing at yarl restaurant's noisy kitchen hood. This is where yarl restaurant's open air kitchen is.

Below are photos of yarl restaurant's open air kitchen where foods are prepared. Look at these pictures carefully. A picture speaks a thousand words. Would  you like to eat foods prepared this way? Is this our ideal Malaysian kitchen? Would you mind paying so much for foods prepared near the garbage dumps? Restaurant foods are not cheap nowadays. Perhaps Malaysians don't mind eating dirty foods.

This article is edited to add the above photo taken today at around 10 a.m. (I first posted this article at 6.11 a.m. this morning) In this photo you can see another big garbage bin (on the left of yarl restaurant's open air kitchen) with lots of rubbish surrounding it. In fact, there are many garbage dumps on this lane!
